How Coaching Works

Are you ready to rock the NALA CP® Skills Exam?

Coaching from an expert is often the biggest help to guide you through the examination preparation.

Have you taken the NALA CP® Skills Exam and failed it?

Coaching is a way to have a supportive environment to prepare you. You'll work with Dr. Bechtol, an expert, to determine how you can improve and pass the exam on the second or third take.

You've paid for 30 minutes of coaching, so take advantage of it.

Coaching takes place on Zoom with Dr. Bechtol who has taught how to take and pass the NALA CP® Skills Exam for over 15 years.

You can do this!

What is The Secret Sauce?

My superpower is teaching! I've taught paralegals for over 20 years. I studied a lot to learn how the CP®Skills Exam "works".

I was inspired to "crack the code" when a star legal research and writing student I had taught failed this part of the exam. At the time, it was called "Judgment and Analytical Ability". I was truly shocked! The student appealed, but the Examining Board's decision didn't change. He had to retake the exam.

To learn what the "secret sauce" is, I read the preparation literature from NALA and other sources. Everything that I could get my hands on was consulted. Then, I attended the daylong workshops at two NALA conferences to get answers to my own questions about the exam.

Once I "cracked the code" and figured out the truth about what is required, I built training materials and began teaching my students a method that has worked consistently for 8 years. My students pass the exam, and so can you!

Schedule Your Coaching Session

When is the best time to get coaching?

It depends!

If you are retaking the exam a second or third time:

If you have taken the exam and failed it, get coaching early in the Mastering the NALA CP® Skills Exam course. If you are in this group of students, we will review and evaluate the score sheet you received from NALA when they announced their decision. My expertise will help you determine where in the exam process you need to focus your attention.

If you are preparing to take the exam for the first time:

If you haven't taken the exam yet, it is recommended you wait for coaching until after you have finished Mastering the NALA CP® Skills Exam course-Phase 1 and Phase 2 and received feedback from me on the memorandums you prepared in the courses.

If you are "stuck" while taking the courses, get help immediately! Schedule an appointment for coaching!

How to Schedule Your Coaching Appointment

I am generally available on weekends from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM ET. However, weekday late afternoon and evenings from 3:00 - 7:00 PM ET. Fridays, all day, tend to be open for me to meet for coaching. My daytime hours are limited Monday through Thursday because I teach paralegals those days.

Importantly, it is difficult to schedule meetings with me the same day. In other words, my schedule can fill fast and there may be nothing available to you on the same day.

Use this link to my Microsoft Bookings Page to schedule. When you schedule, you will receive an Outlook Calendar invitation to a Teams meeting. At the day/time of the meeting, simply log on to Teams. The meeting length will default to 15 minutes. If time permits, we will continue for 30 minutes, if you need the additional time. However, I recommend 15 minute intervals so that students still have another 15-minute slot in the coaching package for another 15 minute coaching meeting.
